Prototype CNC machine design.

he Computer Numeric Control (CNC) is a technology which aims to generate, parse and execute sequential actions that describes the behavior of the end effector. This article reports the development small sized prototype CNC machine, based on a modular system with the capability of communication through USB. It is also reported the development of the basic electronic devices to run a CNC machine and proposes, as well, a software developed in LabVIEW to establish the communication between the machine and the computer. The main objective of this work is the development of a machine which allows future researches on the process performance, on educational purposes, the demonstration the parts involved on the CNC machine.

Using Genetic Algorithm to Tune PI-Controllers for the Direct-Drive Synchronous Wind Generators.

This paper presents a novel methodology for tuning proportional-integral (PI) controllers gains for the grid-side converter of direct-drive synchronous wind generator using a genetic algorithm (GA) approach. The control approach aims to improve the behavior of the direct-current (DC)-link voltage, by a more effective contribution of direct-drive wind generator controllers to the system controllability when an electrical fault occurs. The time-domain simulations are carried out using the single-machine infinite bus system model with one direct-drive synchronous generator. The performance of the wind generator with optimized controller parameters and with the parameters designed by the pole placement technique are compared to demonstrate that the control performance of the system with optimized controller parameters permits the improvement of the converter ride-through capability.

Reactive Power Control of Direct Drive Synchronous Wind Generators to Enhance the Low Voltage Ride-Through Capability.

: This paper explores the performance of alternative voltage control strategy applied to direct drive synchronous wind generators, more specifically with permanent magnetic (PMSG). The reactive power control of the grid-side converter is investigated for voltage control purposes. In Brazil, the Grid National Operator (ONS) requires that wind turbines stay connected to the grid during voltage dips, but does not stipulate yet the need of reactive power injection during faults in the electric grid. It just specifies the Low Voltage Ride-Through (LVRT) capability curve for voltage dips that the wind generators should follow to avoid the trip of the under-voltage relay. Criteria of the synchronous wind generators protection are evaluated starting from short-circuit simulations in a test grid with adoption of the Brazilian grid code, without reactive power injection, being compared with those of other countries that adopt reactive power injection curves.
